The PLI delivery system from Lenstec will be available on the Softec HD and the Tetraflex soon thereafter.

The PLI is an exciting device for the delivery of high technology implants from Lenstec. It will decrease the human error factor involved in placement of the implant into the injector system. Industry studies have shown loading error as the most documented complication. Many surgeons do not load their own implants into the injectors as they are focused on performing the cataract operation while the surgical scrub tech places the IOL into the injector. As the baby boomers age, presbyopia makes loading lenses into the traditional cartridge system difficult, which results in torn and ripped lenses. The PLI is designed to eliminate this major complication
The PLI will provide a solution to many of the complications found in our industry. Surgeons and scrub technicians will enjoy the benefits found with the PLI as they do not need to touch the implant or perform the steps to prepare the injector for IOL delivery to the hands of the surgeon. Technique is reduced, and protocol is easy, simple and effective.
The PLI will also reduce costs associated with lens error and time in the operating room. In the new cost-conscience environment we live in, the PLI will help increase successful IOL implantation. The new package for the IOL inside of the PLI will be more expensive to manufacture and therefore will be sold at a premium price. The costs associated with handling and caring for the IOL in the operating room will be far higher than the extra investment in this technology.
